Bing Dawe (1952-)

Artist, Bing Dawe, was born in South Canterbury alongside the Waihao and Waitaki Rivers. This bronze is from Dawes Grotesques series, works that satirised human phobias and explored physical distortions of the human figure. Many of these figures were incorporated in Dawe’s significant and controversial sculpture, The Fabulous Races (A Sculpture for Children 1989), which stood in the market square of the Christchurch Arts Centre and was designed to stimulate the imagination of children.
