Patrick Caulfield (1936 – 2005) was an English painter and print maker and a contemporary of Howard Hodgkin and David Hockney. His work is recognisable for the pared-down images which often incorporated elements pf photorealism.

From 1956 – 1960 he studied at the Chelsea School of Art, and then from 1960 – 1963 at the Royal College of Art. Caulfield held a teaching position at Chelsea School of Art between 1963 -1971.

Caulfield has been associated with the Pop Art movement. Both his paintings and prints are figurative. Simple objects are depicted often with black outlines, larger areas of flat colour enhance the simplicity .In later works elements of photorealism and collage are used.

His works are held in all significant British Galleries. Te Papa also has a piece. Charles Saatchi and David Bowie also collected his works.
