Evelin Bodfish Bourne (1892-1954) was born in Wareham, Massachusetts and grew up in New York where her father was an artist, and an illustrator for contemporary magazines. Evelin spent 6 years studying at the National Academy of Design and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She received 3 medals for her painting.

In 1918 she married John Knowles Bourne and they later settled on a farm in Buzzards Bay, near her earlier home in Wareham. Here she painted the local landscape, still lifes and some portraits. Predominantly working in water colour, she did favour oils for her portraiture.

Belonging to both the local art associations in both Cape Cod, Hyannis and Provincetown she was able to regularly exhibit  and sell her paintings. She also had several exhibitions at galleries in New York. Bourne had one-person shows at the Macy Galleries in 1928 and at the Delphic Studios in 1933. She continued to exhibit her oils and watercolours in group shows at the Opportunity Gallery, G.R.D. Studio, Helen Hackett Gallery and Morton Gallery in New York City. From 1930 to 1940, Bourne showed with the Wayne Gallery at 794 Lexington Avenue, New York City. At Boston, she was represented by the Grace Horne Galleries and an oil was exhibited in the 1938 at the Boston Institute of Modern Art. Evelin was one of the first members of the Boston Society of Independent Artists and continued to exhibit regularly at the Provincetown Art Association until her death in 1954.
